About Lefse & Lutefisk: A Podcast for Posterity

Hi, I’m Kyle Anderson, and this little corner of the internet is for our family. If you recognize the last names, the small towns, or the dishes in the title, you’re in the right place.

Lefse & Lutefisk: A Podcast for Posterity started as a way to record the stories I grew up hearing around kitchen tables, in living rooms after holidays, and on long car rides. The podcast is where you can listen in on those conversations. This website is where those stories get to stretch out, gather their details, and find a more permanent home.

What this website is for

This site is the archive that sits beside the podcast. For every episode, there’s a place here where you can dig a little deeper: who we’re talking about, where they lived, how they’re connected to the rest of the family, and what was happening in the wider world at the time.

Think of it as the family binder that lives on the dining room shelf — only this time, it’s digital, searchable, and (hopefully) easier to share with cousins who live far away.

What you’ll find here

As you click around, you’ll find:

  • Episode pages with summaries, notes, and links to listen.
  • Cast of characters — short profiles of the people we mention, how they’re related, and where they fit in the family tree.
  • Places and maps that help you picture the farms, neighborhoods, churches, and towns at the heart of these stories.
  • Historical background to give context to immigration stories, wars, economic hardships, and everyday life in earlier generations.
  • Family photos and documents — snapshots, letters, recipes, clippings, and other pieces of our shared past.

My hope is that, together, the audio and the archive help you not only hear the stories, but also see how they all connect.

Who this is for

This site is first and foremost for family — the people who might recognize a great-grandparent’s handwriting in a scanned letter, or who have their own version of a story they’ve heard a dozen times.

It’s also for the next generation and the ones after that: kids, grandkids, and future relatives who may not remember these voices firsthand, but who can still pull up a page, listen to an episode, and say, “Oh, that’s where we come from.”

Why I built this

I built this site as a way to give our family history a place to live and grow beyond the podcast. Audio is powerful, but it’s also fleeting — you hear a name, a date, a place, and a moment later it’s gone. Here, we can slow down. We can spell things correctly, add a photo to a face, and connect one story to another.

On a more personal note, this is my way of saying thank you to the generations who came before us and a small gift to the ones who will come after. If, years from now, someone finds this site and feels a little less alone because they recognize a story, then it will have done its job.

You’re part of this story too

Family stories are never finished, and I definitely don’t have everything right or complete. If you spot a detail that needs correcting, recognize someone in a photo, or have a story, recipe, or memory you’d like to add, I would love to hear from you.

Please reach out if you have photos tucked in an album, dates scribbled on a scrap of paper, or just a good story that shouldn’t be lost. This archive will be better, richer, and more accurate if it reflects all of us.

Thanks for being here, for listening, and for caring about where we come from.

You can listen to Lefse & Lutefisk: A Podcast for Posterity on Spotify, but I hope you’ll also spend some time exploring the episode pages here on the site. That’s where you’ll find the names, faces, maps, and background that turn each episode into part of a much bigger family story.
